When bedtime begins

Let’s plan the next bedtime.

Build a short evening sequence, choose words in advance and notice what fits your family.

Choose your child’s age range, device context and the part that feels hardest. Your free plan includes what to prepare, a short sentence for the moment and a small reflection afterward.

For ages 2–5. No child names or exact birthdays. Educational guidance, not medical care.

What will our bedtime plan include?

Bedtime can feel like the same decisions being made again: another book, another drink, another trip out of bed. This free builder helps caregivers choose a small familiar next step before the evening gets busy. Start with an age band and the part that feels hardest, then choose a quiet activity that already feels familiar to your household.

Read what to expect before making a plan

Before: agree on a manageable ending.

The plan gives the adult a preparation step, such as making room for ordinary needs before a final goodnight or discussing the routine with the other caregiver. A book followed by a familiar goodnight is one possible example. You can keep a useful part without trying to fit your family into someone else’s exact clock or schedule.

During: reach for one small step.

Your saved routine includes a short sentence to use and a next action. Its brief-prompt view is there when the longer plan feels like too much to read. If the moment becomes harder, you can make the next step smaller or open a parent repair prompt. Responding to comfort, health and safety needs comes before completing the sequence.

After: notice what your household tried.

The check-in asks whether bedtime happened and whether you actually tried the plan. Only reported use contributes to the household’s observations. Returning to the same routine on another date is different from simply opening it again. You can share one specific plan with the next caregiver, so both adults have the same preparation and next step.

A first complete routine is free, with no email required. Save or print it, or use the free bedtime routine chart for a reminder away from the screen. Read our bedtime guides and the AAP’s toddler bedtime guidance for broader context. CalmerTurn cannot assess why a child is not sleeping; persistent sleep concerns need individual professional guidance.
